Biographical Information[edit]

Through 2020, Steve Adkins is the only pitcher in the last 25 years to make his debut as a starter and give up no hits. He is also the only starting pitcher in the last 50 years to give up no hits while losing his debut. Facing the Texas Rangers for the New York Yankees on September 12, 1990, Steve walked eight of the eleven batters he faced, allowing three earned runs. After a meltdown the following spring, accusing the Yankees of not giving their young pitchers in-house chances, Steve was traded on June 26, 1991 to the Chicago Cubs for minor league pitcher David Rosario. He did not return to the majors. Adkins received his degree in engineering from Penn. He primarily wore number 59.
