Biographical Information[edit]
Spike Merena pitched 24.7 innings for the Boston Red Sox in September 1934 with a good 2.92 ERA. He gave up no unearned runs. At age 24, he was much younger than the team average age of 29. Lefty Grove was 34 and Fritz Ostermueller was 26.
One source says he pitched a four-hitter against the New York Yankees, but his career ended the following spring due to a sore arm. Frank Klein
He had gone 16-10 for the Richmond Colts in 1933.
