Sotaro Suzuki (鈴木 惣太郎)

Biographical Information[edit]

Sotaro Suzuki was a pioneer in Japanese-American baseball relations.

Suzuki reported on American baseball for the Yomiuri media. He helped Matsutaro Shoriki arrange the visits of US All-Stars, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx and Charlie Gehringer, in 1931 and 1934. He also helped recruit Harris McGalliard to be one of the first Americans to play in the Japanese Professional Baseball League. He helped professional baseball resume in Japan after World War II. In 1968, he was inducted to the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.
