Sotaro Shimauchi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Shimauchi was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the second round of the 2018 NPB draft, and he joined the bullpen as a rookie. He had a 4.40 ERA in 25 games in 2019, then recorded a 4.54 ERA in 38 appearances in 2020. Shimauchi broke out in 2021, pitched 51 games with a solid 3.12 ERA and collected 15 holds. He only pitched 22 games with a 3.79 ERA in 2022, but he bounced back soon and had a career year in 2023. Shimauchi notched a league-leading 39 holds, led the Central League with 62 appearances and won the CL Most Valuable Setup Pitcher Award.
