Soo-jung Choi was a coach for South Korea in their first Women's Baseball World Cup appearance.
In 1990, as a high school freshman, Choi first came across baseball while listening to the radio. She went to Daejeon Stadium to catch a game and fell in love with the sport. In college, Choi worked on practicing baseball by herself since there were no opportunities for women in baseball in South Korea at the time. In 2005, the Nine Bigs were formed as an amateur team for women's baseball and Choi joined, playing in the Women's Baseball Association. She had to convince her employer (SK C&C), where she worked as an information technology consultant, that she needed weekends off to play and manage the Nine Bigs. In 2007, Choi took an umpire course through the Korea Baseball Organization.
In the 2008 Women's Baseball World Cup, Choi was the only female coach on the South Korean team and also was the clubhouse manager and interpreter. She was an outfielder for the team in the 2010 Women's Baseball World Cup, going 0 for 4 with a run as a back-up.
