Biographical nformation[edit]

1B/RF Soichi Fujita won a batting title in college in 1936 but did not debut in Nippon Pro Baseball until 1950, when the 35-year-old hit .288/.327/.414. In '51, Fujita batted .261/.321/.390. He kept on declining to .227/.292/.310 the next year and was 0 for 2 in 1953. Overall, he had hit .264/.311/.380 for the Kokutetsu Swallows.

In 1954, he became the Swallows' manager and led them to a 55-73-2, 5th-place finish. The next year, they were 57-71-2 and again finished fifth and Fujita was replaced as manager by Mitsuo Uno.
