Biographical Information[edit]
So Tsutsui has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Tsutsui represented Japan in the 1994 Asian Games. The Chunichi Dragons drafted him in the seventh round of the 1996 NPB draft. Tsutsui only hit .214/.227/.238 in 37 games in his rookie year, then slightly improved to .247/.316/.303 in 35 games in 1998. He also won the batting title in the minor Western League in 1998. Tsutsui spent the bulk of his career in the NPB Farm Leagues, and only had 68 at-bats combined with the big club in the next four seasons. He hit .291/.350/.509 in 55 at-bats in 2003, but only got 10 at-bats in 2004. The Dragons released him after the 2004 season, and the Hanshin Tigers picked him up. Tsutsui still couldn't get any chances with the big club, and he announced his retirement after the 2006 season. He coached for the Tigers' minor team from 2007 to 2019, then worked as fielding coach since 2019.
Overall, Tsutsui had hit .232/.295/.304 in 8 seasons in NPB.
