Biographical Information

Sydney Eckstone pitched in the minor leagues from 1903 to 1908. Career statistics are sparse, but it is known he went 12-14 in 32 games for the Richmond Colts in 1906. He went 0-1 in two games (1 complete game) for the Paris Parisians in 1911. He began the year as the club's skipper, but was replaced by Danny Jenkins partway through the season.

He had previously pitched in amateur leagues in Mississippi prior to his professional career. He later became a minor league umpire in the Kitty League, and if newspaper accounts of the day are accurate, a crooked one. Though his statistical record with the club is unavailable, he had played for, and was released by, the Cairo Giants. Bitter over his release, he told "a few intimates" before the game he was going to "fix Cairo for releasing him and accordingly gave a decision that cost Cairo the game." The fans were incensed and the newspaper account implies one was going to try and lynch him, but he escaped.[1] He also worked as a circus clown with Ringling Brothers.
