Biographical Information[edit]

Shinsaburo Tawata pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.

Tawata completed the fourth no-hitter in the Meiji Jingu Baseball Convention in 2012. The Seibu Lions drafted him in the first round of the 2015 NPB draft, and he soon joined the rotation as a rookie. He went 7-5 with a 4.38 ERA in his rookie year, and gained 2 votes in the PL ROY voting. The Okinawa native improved to 5-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 2017, and had a career year in 2018. Tawata went 16-5 with a 3.81 ERA, leading the league in wins, complete games and starts. He also ranked 9th in strikeouts (85 behind Takahiro Norimoto) and collected 37 points in the PL MVP voting; he ranked 6th in the voting. He also pitched for the NPB All-Stars against the MLB All-Stars in the 2018 Nichi-Bei Series. However, this season was Tawata's last productive season. His ERA rose to 5.83 in 2019 and he didn't pitched any games after that due to dysautonomia. The Lions then released him after he spent the whole 2020 season in the NPB Farm Leagues, and his professional career ended.

Tawata's repertoire included a fastball (peak 94.4 mph), slider and forkball.

Overall, Tawata was 29-21 with a 4.17 ERA, struck out 304 and pitched 434 1/3 innings in 4 years in the NPB.
