Biographical Information[edit]
Shinji Ando played in the Nippon Professional Baseball and the Taiwan Major League.
Ando was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 1988 NPB draft. He didn't get many chances in NPB, and only played 73 games combined in 7 years in the league. Ando became a free agent in 2000, and the Taipei Gida signed him. The Oita native became a star in Taiwan, hitting .333/.429/.453 and led the league in walks with 48. He won his first Best Ten award as a outfielder, and was also selected into the All-Star Game. Ando batted .272/.374/.335 in 2001, and .271/.335/.352 in 2002. When the two leagues merged in 2003, Ando refused to joined the CPBL and left Taiwan; he came back to his hometown Japan. He was a college coach at International Pacific University in Japan.
