Biographical Information[edit]

Sherman Edwards pitched one game in September for the 1934 Cincinnati Reds. The Reds that year lost 99 games, and only one pitcher (Don Brennan) had a record over .500. The star pitcher on the team, Paul Derringer, went 15-21.

Edwards pitched 3 innings without a decision, giving up 4 hits. His ERA of 3.00 compared favorably to the team ERA that season of 4.37.

Edwards was 24 at the time, on a team that had an average age of 29.7. 43-year-old Dazzy Vance was on the team at the time Edwards made his debut.

Edwards was born and died in Arkansas. His birthplace was Mount Ida, AR, and oddly enough, the only other major league player who was born there, Lon Warneke, was born there the same year as Edwards was.
