Biographical Information[edit]

Shawn Riggans was signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and scout Kevin Elfering as the 24th round pick in the 2000 amateur draft.

Riggans was on the roster of the Tampa Bay Rays for the entire 2008 postseason but was the only player on the team not to be used in a single game, as Dioner Navarro played every inning behind the plate. He had been Navarro's back-up during the last part of the regular season, going to bat 135 times in 44 games and showing good power, with 7 doubles and 6 home runs for a respectable .407 slugging percentage in spite of a low batting average and on-base percentage.
