Biographical Information[edit]

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays drafted Shawn O'Malley in the 5th round of the 2006 Amateur Draft out of high school. O'Malley played in the Tampa Bay minor league system from 2006-2013 before moving to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2014 when he finally reached the major leagues. He made his major league debut by pinch-hitting for future hall of famer Albert Pujols. His stay in Anaheim lasted only one year and O'Malley joined the Seattle Mariners organization in 2015-2017. He appeared in the majors in both 2015 and 2016 and earned a reputation as a "super utility player." In 2018 O'Malley played in the Colorado Rockies minor league system before finishing his playing career in the independent leagues. He finished his career with a lifetime major league average of .231 with 3 home runs and 25 RBIs.

O'Malley returned to the Mariners to begin his coaching career. He was scheduled to be hitting coach of the Modesto Nuts in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. O'Malley was hitting coach of the Everett AquaSox in 2021, Arkansas Travelers in 2022-2023, and Tacoma Rainiers in 2024.
