Biographical Information[edit]

As a senior in high school, Shaq Thompson was a five-star football recruit that accepted a scholarship to play safety at the University of Washington. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 18th round of the 2012 amateur draft, and signed for a reported $100,000 bonus. The red Sox were intrigued by his tremendous athletic skills and wanted to see if this was enough to overcome his lack of baseball experience. Evidently, this was not the case, as after reporting to the GCL Red Sox, Thompson had what could generously be described as a tough summer. He was 0-39 with 37 strikeouts in 13 games.

In the fall of 2012, he went to Washington and started in the secondary as a true freshman, the start of a great college football career that saw him be converted to linebacker and be selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. He became a starter his rookie season and helped his team reach the Super Bowl.
