Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Serge Marter played 10 years in Belgium's First Division and appeared for the Belgian national team.

Marter was 8 for 33 with a double, 8 walks, 9 runs and 6 RBI for the 1996 Hoboken Pioneers, fielding .895. In 1997, he hit .296/.397/.333 for the Port of Antwerp Greys, fielding .917. The next year, he batted .228/.380/.338 with 44 runs, 35 walks and 5 triples while fielding .924. He was 4th in the First Division in both walks and triples. He was only 1 for 8 with two runs and two walks in 2000.

In 2001, he moved to the Royal Antwerp Eagles and hit .292/.397/.406 with 29 runs and 11 steals in 13 tries. He fielded .902. He tied Steven De Lannoy and Roger de Saedeleer for 6th in the league in steals. He had his best season in 2002, producing at a .408/.558/.493 clip with 32 runs and 19 steals without being caught. He fielded .916. He was one steal shy of league leader Filip Van Der Meiren and was 7th in average (between Peter Stroobants and de Saedeleer).

His next stop was the Brasschaat Braves. He hit .274/.434/.288 for them in 2003. He played for Belgium in the 2003 European Championship, going 3 for 10 with 3 walks, a run and a RBI with 5 putouts and one error; he mostly backed up Robby Verhaert in left field. In 2004, he hit .293/.444/.317 and stole 9 bases in 9 tries while the Braves won the pennant (they also had done so in 2003). He tied for 5th in steals. His last season, he batted .289/.389/.311 and fielded .952 in 2005.

He later coached at the Belgian Baseball Academy and coached for Belgium in the 2009 European Junior Championship.
