Biographical Information[edit]
After high school, Sean White was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 41st round of the 1999 amateur draft but did not sign. In 2002, Sean went 7-2 with a 4.28 ERA for the University of Washington. The Montréal Expos took him in the 35th round of the 2002 amateur draft but he did not sign then either. Returning to school, he was 8-4 with a 4.76 ERA as a senior. Though he did worse than his junior year and was older, he went much higher in the draft when the Atlanta Braves picked him in the 8th round of the 2003 amateur draft.
Sean debuted with the Danville Braves and was 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA and one save in 2003. He split 2004 between the Rome Braves (3-3, 1 Sv, 6.44) and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (6-6, 3.60). White was 9-3 with a 3.71 for the 2005 Pelicans and moved up to the Mississippi Braves, where he went 2-5 with a 4.11 in 8 starts.
White was invited to Spring Training with Atlanta and Bobby Cox considered him for a long relief role before he was sent back to Mississippi. He went 5-6 with a 4.40 ERA. A shoulder injury limited his time somewhat and he pitched three rehab games with the GCL Braves (0 R, 3 baserunners in 7 IP). He went 0-3 with a 5.65 ERA in the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Javelinas.
In the 2006 Rule V Draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected White with the 4th pick, then sent him to the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations.
White made his MLB debut on April 4, 2007 for the Seattle Mariners in their 9-0 loss to the Oakland A's. White worked 3.1 innings and gave up just one run.
