Biographical Information[edit]

Scott Watkins pitched in the major leagues for the Minnesota Twins for part of the 1995 season, going 0-0, 5.40 in 27 games, all in relief.

The Twins had been the third team to draft him, taking him in the 23rd round of the 1992 amateur draft, out of Oklahoma State University. Before that, the Atlanta Braves had taken him in the 35th round of the 1990 amateur draft out of Seminole State College, and the Montreal Expos in the 70th round of the 1991 amateur draft, also out of Oklahoma State. Used strictly as a reliever in the pro ranks, he did not put up particularly impressive numbers in making his way up to the Show, with an ERA of 5.94 in the Southern League in 1993 and 6.34 between AA and AAA in 1994. However, he pitched well for the AAA Salt Lake Buzz of the Pacific Coast League before getting he call in 1995, as he was 4-2, 2.80 with 20 saves in 45 games. His major league debut was on August 1st that year and he spent the final two months of the season with Minnesota.

In 1996, his ERA shot back up, reaching 7.69 in 47 games for Salt Lake. He pitched five more seasons in the minors after that, and was in AAA for all of them, but never got another chance at the top level. He was with four different organizations during that span, including the Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies. Overall, he went 30-27, 4.76 in ten minor league seasons, with 36 saves in 394 games, excluding his brief time in the Show.
