Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 6th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of Mercer University. On August 2, 2022, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers in return for P Michael Fullmer. He made his major league debut for the Tigers on September 10, 2023 as the starting pitcher against the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park and allowed 2 runs in 5 innings to receive credit for a 3-2 win.

He was raised by a single mother and took the "Gipson" part of his compound last name from her.
