Biographical Information[edit]

OF Sammy Siani was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 37th overall pick in the 2019 amateur draft in Competitive Balance Round A. The pick was compensation for the Pirates' failure to sign Gunnar Hoglund after his selection in the 2018 amateur draft. He was the second player selected by the Pirates, after P Quinn Priester.

Siani made his professional debut with the GCL Pirates, where he .241/.372/.308 in 39 games, his biggest being his ability to draw walks. He had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, he played 62 games with the Bradenton Marauders of the Low-A Southeast, hitting .215/.376/.390. He drew 52 walks against 63 strikeouts, and began to show a bit of power, with 8 homers and 35 RBIs in addition to 48 runs.

His brother Mike Siani, who is also an outfielder, reached the major leagues in 2022.
