Biographical Information[edit]

Signed by the Anaheim Angels in 2001 as an undrafted free agent, Sam Swenson was a minor-league player for two years. He hit .351/.438/.631 for the 2001 Provo Angels, stole 7 bases in 8 tries, scored 61 and drove in 55 in 63 games and hit a team-high 13 homers. Sam led the Pioneer League in slugging percentage and made the league's All-Star team as an outfielder. At age 23, he was very old for Rookie league play. The next year, Swenson slipped to .233/.321/.399 with 105 strikeouts in 283 at-bats for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
