Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Sam Selman began playing in the Kansas City Royals minor league system in 2012 and reached the major leagues with the San Francisco Giants in 2019.

He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 14th round of the 2009 amateur draft, but did not sign a contract. He did sign after being taken by the Royals in the 2nd round of the 2012 amateur draft. His signing bonus was $750,000.

Selman went 5-4 with a 2.09 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) for the Idaho Falls Chukars in 2012, striking out 89 batters and allowing only 45 hits in 60 1/3 innings. He was named a Pioneer League Post-Season All-Star and the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year. In 2013, he went 11-9 with a 3.38 ERA in 27 starts for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, striking out 128 batters in 125 1/3 innings and allowing only 88 hits. He was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the season. He began 2014 with the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals.
