Biographical Information[edit]
Sa-yong Gam was one of the feel-good stories of early Korean baseball. He was employed as a steelworker when the Korea Baseball Organization was formed in 1982. He tried out for and made the Sammi Superstars. In his first season, Gam was 1-14 with one save and a 6.46 ERA, striking out 23 and allowing 179 hits in 133 2/3 innings. In 1983, Gam had a 2.92 ERA and no decisions in six games. He pitched 2 1/3 scoreless frames in 1984. In 1985, Gam moved to the Chungbo Pintos and went 0-1 with a 6.53 ERA. The next year, he allowed one run in three innings for the OB Bears to conclude his career. He had gone 1-15 with a save and a 6.09 ERA in 61 games in the KBO.
In 2004, a movie of Gam's life ("Superstar Gam Sa-Yong") was released.
