Biographical Information[edit]
Ryujiro Matsutani pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Matsutani represented Japan in the 1987 Intercontinental Cup. The Yomiuri Giants drafted him in the second round of the 1988 NPB draft. He completed a no-hitter in the NPB Farm Leagues as a rookie, but only pitched 4 games combined with the big club in the first two seasons of his career. He had a career-high 21 appearances in 1991, but his ERA was 4.96. He was demoted again, and only pitched 14 more games combined in the next three seasons. He transferred to the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1995, but he still only pitched 20 games combined in two seasons with the Buffaloes. He announced his retirement after the 1997 season.
Overall, Matsutani was 4-4 with a 5.06 ERA and pitched 115 2/3 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
