Biographical Information[edit]
Ryosuke Sawai played for the AZL Padres in 1997 and for the Chiba Lotte Marines in 1998 and from 2000 to 2004.
Prior to playing professionally, Sawai played in two consecutive Koshien Tournaments in 1994. The Marines took him in the first round in the 1995 NPB draft. In 1997, he played in three games for the AZL Padres, hitting .100 in 10 at-bats. Though he had only one hit, he managed to score three runs thanks to four walks. He struggled with the glove, with four errors in nine chances at third base. He moved across the Pacific to Japan in 1998, playing in two games for Chiba Lotte and hitting .000 in two at-bats. In 2000, he hit .200 in nine games (10 at-bats) with one home run. In 2001, he hit .263 in 19 at-bats, in 2002 he hit .176 in 68 at-bats and in 2003 he hit .279 in 61 at-bats. Overall, he hit .225/.287/.381 with six home runs and 19 RBI in 160 at-bats (90 games).
