Biographical Information

Relief pitcher Ryne Harper began his professional career in 2011 after being taken by the Atlanta Braves in 37th round of the 2011 amateur draft.

In his first season he put up a 0.59 ERA in 17 relief appearances between two teams. The next year, in 2012, his mark was 2.73 in 42 games, followed by a 1.79 ERA in 2013, a 2.58 mark in 2014, a 2.04 ERA in 2015 and a 2.51 ERA in 2016. He averaged more than 10 strikeouts per nine innings in each of first six seasons, save for 2013 (8.8 K/9 IP). In 2016, he K'd 12.6/9 IP.

In 2014, he played for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League (9 G, 3.97 ERA, 10.3 K/9 IP). In 2015, he was with the Caneros de los Mochis of the Mexican Pacific Winter League (10 G, 0.87 ERA, 9.6 K/9) in the offseason.

On December 4, 2015, he was traded as the player to be named later from the Braves to the Seattle Mariners for pitcher Jose Ramirez.

He finally reached the major leagues at the start of the 2019 season, just after turning 30, with the Minnesota Twins, with whom he had signed as a free agent at the start of 2018. He spent the entire season in the majors and was quite solid, getting into 61 games, all in relief, with a record of 4-2, 3.81 and 1 save. He struck out 50 batters in 54 1/3 innings while walking just 10. The Twins had a great year, winning over 100 games and a division title, but he was not used in the postseason as they were swept in three games by the New York Yankees. On January 29, 2020, he was traded to the Washington Nationals for minor leaguer Hunter McMahon.
