Biographical Information

Russell Buhite played in the minor leagues in 1957, 1959 and 1960. In his final campaign, he slashed .303/.411/.377 with 14 stolen bases in 76 games for the Rutherford County Owls.

He later became a history professor, serving in that capacity for 45 years. He authored a dozen books, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize at one point. He wrote the book The Continental League: A Personal History (2014).
