Biographical Information[edit]

Russ Petrick pitched for four seasons in the minors.

Petrick was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 37th round of the 2003 amateur draft. He split that summer between the GCL Orioles (4 R in 2 1/3 IP) and Bluefield Orioles (2-0, 2.81 in 22 G, 27 K in 25 2/3 IP). In 2004, he pitched for the Aberdeen Ironbirds (2-4, 5.52 in 20 G, 1.77 WHIP) and the Delmarva Shorebirds (0-1, 5.25 in 11 G, 2.25 WHIP). He spent all of 2005 with the Shorebirds, going 6-1 with a save and a 3.98 ERA in 47 games. He was second on the club in appearances behind Casey Cahill. In 2006, he struggled for Delmarva (2-0, 5.94, 1.76 WHIP in 21 G) and the Frederick Keys (0-4, 7.41, 1.74 WHIP in 23 G). On April 12, he teamed on the first no-hitter of the minor league season, joining with Radhames Liz, Jeff Montani and Cahill to shut down the Salem Avalanche. Overall, Russ was 12-12 with a save and a 5.11 ERA in 146 minor league games (8 starts). He allowed 274 hits and 119 walks in 230 2/3 innings while striking out 188.
