Biographical Information

Rube Vickers was the first pitcher to record his first two career victories on the same day, doing so for the Philadelphia Athletics on October 5, 1907. He entered the first game against the Washington Senators in the 4th inning and was still around when the A's scored twice in the top of the 15th inning for a 4-2 win. He then started the second game and pitched five perfect innings before the game was called because of darkness, with Philadelphia winning, 4-0. Three other pitchers have also recorded their first two career wins on the same day since, with the most recent being Joe Kerrigan, with the 1976 Montreal Expos.

He had his best season in 1908, when he went 18-19 for the A's. Used regularly as a reliever when he was not starting, he led the American League with 17 games finished (in addition to pitching 21 complete games) and did not allow a single home run in 317 innings.
