Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Ross Wolf made 14 relief appearances with the Florida Marlins in 2007 with a loss and an 11.68 ERA. He then returned to the minor leagues, and did not come back to the Show until 2010, when the Oakland Athletics used him in 10 games. He did a lot better, with no record and a 4.26 ERA, but he could not stick and went back to the minor leagues for another long stint. When he next resurfaced, it was on May 22, 2013, as a member of the Texas Rangers. He was given the opportunity to make his first major league start and had a strong performance, defeating his former team, the Athletics, 3-1, while giving up only a run on 3 hits in 5 innings. he was credited with his first big league victory. He was the unlucky loser in the longest game in Rangers history on June 8th. He pitched six scoreless innings in relief before giving up a run to the Toronto Blue Jays with two outs in the 18th inning. He finished the season at 1-3, 4.15 in 22 games, including 3 starts. His 47 2/3 major league innings were the most of his professional career.

Wolf stated that he had been many times on the verge of calling it a career during his two long stays in the minor leagues following his first two tryouts in the Show. In 2012, he had a young child with a second on the way and was concerned about being away from his family for such long stretches with little to show, but his wife convinced him to hang on, leading to his successful return a year later. After the 2013 season, however, he decided to renege on a minor league deal with the Rangers, that included no guarantee of pitching in the big leagues, for the assurance of a contract in the Korea Baseball Association. SK Wyverns offered him a deal that gave him a lot more financial security, an understandably important objective for the veteran hurler at that point.
