Biographical Information

Rosey Rowswell was born in Alton, Illinois but raised in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. He was a network broadcaster in the first decade of radio. In 1936, he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates as a broadcaster. He remained with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 19 seasons (1936 to 1954). He partnered with a young Bob Prince from 1948 to 1954 and Prince considered Rowswell his mentor. Rowswell was an unabashed fan who always called the Pirates "my Buccos."

Rowswell was famed for his recreations, reading the game on teletype, then ad-libbing the play. He would ask a fictional character, Aunt Minnie, to raise the window, then break a pane of glass when she didn't make it in time.

Rowswell was also a noted author who wrote four books of humor and poetry.

At his death from uremic poisoning, he was preparing to join the Pirates in Florida for Spring Training.
