Biographical Information[edit]

Roscoe Coughlin was a pitcher for the Chicago Colts and New York Giants from 1890 to 1891. He started his baseball career with the minor league Lynn Lions in 1887 and apparently stuck around in the minors until 1897. Coughlin was a Spanish-American War veteran. After his baseball career ended, he invested in opening up his own mental asylum with a friend.

He was long listed with a year of birth of 1868, but genealogical research about him confirmed that he was in fact three years older than thought and had been born in Dedham, MA and not in Walpole, MA, as originally listed. He is the brother of David Coughlin.
