Ronald R. Hutson

Biographical Information[edit]

Ron Hutson was an umpire in the Appalachian League in 1974 and 1975, being released before the start of the 1976 season. He then resurfaced as a replacement umpire in the National League at the start of the 1979 season when the regular umpires weer on strike. He worked exclusively in games played at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium, and his 16 appearances were among the most by the men hired by the National League office to tide them over during the labor conflict. The fact that he was among the few outside hires with recent professional experience likely explains why he was employed so often.
