Biographical Information[edit]
Ron Broaddus was selected with the 21st pick of the first round by the Atlanta Braves in the June 1970 Major League Baseball draft. In his senior year of high school baseball, Broaddus was 12-1 for the Brazosport Exporters in Freeport, Texas. The lone loss was in the third and deciding game of the state regional finals in which the Bellaire Cardinals scored in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 2-1 win.
Broaddus' baseball career was curtailed by an injury suffered in the minor leagues. He never appeared in a major league game. He spent three of his four minor league seasons with the Greenwood Braves. He was 1-4, 4.65 in '71, 2-3, 4.85 in '72 (with 42 BB in 52 IP) and 1-3, 5.63 in '73. In 1974, Ron went 0-5 with three saves and a 6.06 ERA for the Peninsula Pennants. He walked 43 and allowed 55 hits in 49 innings, while throwing 11 wild pitches.
He returned to his hometown and was later elected to a position on the Brazoria County commissioners court. On February 25, 2013 Broaddus had his Brazosport High School number 13 retired.
