Biographical Information[edit]
Rolando Garza was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 9th round of the 1997 MLB amateur draft from Coachella Valley High School. He played in the minor leagues from 1997 to 2004. In 2000, he transitioned from infielder (primarily) to a pitching role. After his playing career ended, Garza earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from California State University, San Bernardino and graduated in 2010.
Garza's Pepperdine biography mentions that he worked with the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organizations sometime between ending his playing career and starting college coaching, but the precise dates and roles are unavailable publicly. In 2012, Riverside City College hired Garza as a pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He stayed in that role through the 2015 season. Immediately after that, Garza worked as a pitching coach with the 2015 AZL Angels. In August 2015, Garza joined Pepperdine University as their pitching coach and he stayed there through 2019.
The Tampa Bay Rays hired Garza as a minor league pitching coordinator in 2020 and he remained in that role heading into the 2021 season. Garza moved to the Colorado Rockies' chain as pitching coach of the Fresno Grizzlies in 2024.
