Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Roger Cropper was originally a 57th-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1991 draft. His pro career did not begin until 1994, though; he signed as a free agent with the Seattle Mariners chain. Cropper played two years of rookie ball, hitting .261 with 1 homer and 30 RBIs in 97 games. He showed good speed, stealing 25 bases and getting caught just six times, but apparently did not show enough all-around game to earn promotion. In his first season, he batted .210/.297/.229 with 38 strikeouts in 105 at-bats for the AZL Mariners, going 9-for-10 in steals. He moved to the independent Lethbridge Mounties in 1995 and posted a .284/.353/.399 line with 7 triples and 16 swipes in 21 attempts. He tied Phillip Kernan for the Pioneer League lead in three-baggers.
