Roberto De Boey

Roberto De Boey played for the Mortsel Stars in Belgium's First Division and for the Belgian national team. The first year for which stats are available online (as of 5/8/2023) is 1988; he was 1 for 2 with two walks for the Stars, so it conceivably was his rookie year. He hit .154/.214/.154 in 1989 and .293/.339/.328 in 1990. In '91, he batted .330/.459/.433 with 18 steals in 23 tries. He tied Frank Van Droogenbroeck for second in steals, five behind Rudi Brouwers. He batted .414/.481/.557 during 1992 and went 15-for-17 in steal attempts. He was second to Roger De Saedeleer in steals. In a hitters' league, he did not make the top ten in average.

He fell to .274/.333/.379 in 1993 but still tied for 7th in steals (12 for 13). He joined Belgium for the 1993 European Championship, going 2 for 9 with a double, a walk and two steals. He struggled at .183/.253/.289 in '94 then rebounded to .288/.346/.394 the next year, with 13 steals in 15 tries. He tied Lukas Van Der Linden for 5th in steals. In '96, he hit .337/.420/.522 and was 9-for-9 in steals. He tied for 8th in steals. De Boey hit .222/.329/.238 in 1997. The next season, he batted .301/.443/.418 and was hit by 11 pitches, second in the circuit. In 1999, he produced at a .300/.423/.363 clip.

Mortsel won the pennant in 2000, when he hit .413/.505/.575 and stole 15 bases without being caught. He tied Randy Giorgiadis for second in swipes. In '01, he slumped to .234/.294/.325 then rebounded the next year to .315/.407/.391 and was 12-for-12 in steals, tied for 7th in the league in bases pilfered. He was 10 for 17 with a double and 3 triples in reduced time in 2003 then was 0 for 1 in '06 to end his career.

He is the father of Robbe De Boey.
