Biographical Information[edit]

Roberto Alvarez was a minor league outfielder. He hit .249/.311/.378 in three seasons in Cuba, leading the 2002-2003 Serie Nacional with 95 strikeouts. He defected in February of 2005 and signed with the Atlanta Braves. Alvarez hit .325/.408/.421 for the 2006 GCL Braves. In 2007, he batted .291/.334/.405 for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. He finished 6th in the Carolina League in batting average. He was just 3 for 28 with 2 walks and a double for 2008 Pelicans. He played in independent ball in 2009 and 2010.
