Robert Riggins

Biographical Information[edit]

Robert Riggins graduated from Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) in 2008 with a degree in physical education teaching and coaching. He returned to ENMU years later to earn a master's degree in athletic administration.

Riggins spent over a decade teaching history and coaching baseball at a number of high schools in New Mexico.

The Milwaukee Brewers hired Riggins to serve as the Rocky Mountain Vibes development coach in 2020 before the minor league season shut down due to COVID-19. According to a short bio on the Amarillo Baseball Academy Facebook page, the hitting research Riggins conducted as part of his master's program caught the attention of the Brewers.

Due to the minor league season cancellation, Riggins joined the Amarillo Baseball Academy in May, 2020 and then started his own training academy, Heavy Mettle Baseball. He supplemented this work in fall 2021 by serving as a hitting coach for the Lackawanna College Falcons.

Riggins returned to professional baseball in 2022 as a hitting coach for the DSL Giants Black, a role he repeated in 2023. Riggins jumped up several levels in the Giants minor league system as 2024 assistant hitting coach for the Sacramento River Cats.
