Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Robert Boyce was taken 22nd overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1978 amateur draft. Despite hitting .318/.424/.446 with four home runs, 29 RBI, 43 walks to only 42 strikeouts with the Bluefield Orioles his first campaign, Boyce ended up hitting only .247/.353/.320 for his career. Though he showed good plate discipline -- he walked 141 times and had only 168 strikeouts in 912 at-bats -- his batting average never reached higher than .240 after his first season. He never played above A ball.
