Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Rob Richie was signed as a 4th round pick in the 1987 amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers and scout Dick Wilson. The 23-year-old Richie made the majors after three years in the minors, playing in 19 games for the Tigers in 1989. Richie retired from baseball prior to the 1990 season, still a highly regarded prospect. He cited religious reasons (he was a Jehovah's Witness) and retired to become a probation officer.
