Rob Purvis

From BR Bullpen

Biography[edit]

Rob Purvis was the third pitcher selected by the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the 1999 amateur draft; the other two were Jason Stumm and Brian West. Purvis played college baseball at Bradley University and was a Missouri Valley Conference all-star in 1998. He pitched in the White Sox organization from 1999-2004, but failed to find success in double-A and triple-A.

Purvis's best season was in 2000, when he started 27 games for class-A Winston-Salem. He won 11 decisions, posted a 3.38 ERA, and yielded just 139 hits in 167.2 innings. Purvis also made one start for double-A Birmingham in 2000, allowing 8 runs--2 earned--in four innings.

He spent the entire 2001 season with Birmingham, making 23 starts for the Barons. Purvis's stats did not approach those from Winston-Salem, as his record fell to 5-9, and his ERA soared to 5.27.

Purvis bounced back and forth between Winston-Salem and Birmingham for several seasons, before finally being elevated to triple-A Charlotte in 2004; he allowed ten runs in two games. Purvis was released from the organization in November of 2004.
