Road trip
A road trip is when a team leaves its home city for a stretch of games played in its opponents' ballparks. Typically in Major League Baseball, a team will play between two and four consecutive series in discrete cities as the visiting team before returning home for a similar stretch of games. Sometimes however, special circumstances dictate that the road trip lasts for much longer. This can occur when the team's home ballpark is unavailable for any reason, or when playing on the road is considered more profitable. Some teams play their entire season on a road trip: e.g. road teams.
During a road trip, players typically travel together and stay together at the same hotels. This can help reinforce team chemistry, but can also become tiresome after a time, especially as their opponents always have home field advantage during the games that are played.
The opposite of a road trip is a homestand.
