Riverside Park (Albany)

From BR Bullpen

Riverside Park was a ballpark located in Albany, NY in the late 19th century. It was used as an alternative home ballpark by the Troy Trojans when they played in the National League, with games being played here between 1880 and 1882.

The park was located on the Hudson River, and the most famous anecdote associated with the park occurred on May 20, 1881 during an exhibition game between the Worcester Ruby Legs and the local Albany team. Lip Pike is reported to have hit a ball over the right field fence that fell into the river, and because there were no ground rules at the time that specified such a hit was automatically a home run, right fielder Lon Knight of Worcester began to give chase with a boat before giving up the futile attempt.

There was a municipal park on the south side of Albany called Riverside Park, although it is not clear that it was the site of the ballpark, as it was only established in 1901 and abandoned by 1929.
