Biographical Information[edit]
Rick Strickland was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 34th round of the 1989 Amateur Draft from Austin Peay State University. He played in their minor league system from 1989-1992, reaching as high as Double-AA in his last year. Overall Strickland hit .221/.354/.274 while playing most of his games in the outfield.
After completing his playing career, Strickland moved to the St. Louis, MO area and became involved in baseball training programs and eventually established his own academy. In addition to his work at TrainRight Academy, Strickland worked as a part-time scout for the New York Mets, an Associate Scout for the Tampa Bay Rays (2007-2012), and a Hitting Consultant for the St. Louis Cardinals (2017-2018) and Texas Rangers (2019).
The Chicago Cubs hired Strickland to work as a hitting coach for the Tennessee Smokies in 2022-2023 and Iowa Cubs in 2024.
