Biographical Information[edit]
Rick Smoliak was a minor league catcher and a college coach.
He also played hockey while at the University of Minnesota. He played in the New York Mets minor league system from 1963 to 1965. He was 3 for 17 for the 1963 Auburn Mets and 6 for 39 for the 1964 Salinas Mets. In 1965, he hit .151/.303/.192 for the Greenville Mets. He had hit .155//.292/.178 with 20 hits in 52 games.
He later became the head baseball coach for Stony Brook University from 1971 to 1977. During his seven seasons at Stony Brook, Smoliak compiled a 61-91-1 record. He later become the head coach at Northwood University in Florida from 2000 to 2013.
