Biographical Information[edit]

Rick James pitched three games in the majors when he was 19 years old. He was the 6th pick overall in the 1965 amateur draft, by the Chicago Cubs, and was up in the majors in 1967. He was two years younger than teammate Ken Holtzman and about half the age of Ernie Banks, who was 36.

After the 1968 season, he was picked by the San Diego Padres in the expansion draft, but never played for them.

The Cubs Journal says he went to Coffee High School in Florence, AL.
