Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder and pitcher Rick Herrera played in the minor leagues from 1952 to 1956 and in 1959.

He began his career at 17 years old. After playing sparingly his first three campaigns - he appeared in a total of 26 games (hitting .440 in 25 at-bats in 1953) - Herrera performed well his first full year, hitting .292 with 30 doubles and 127 hits in 114 games for the Tri-City Braves in 1955. He had another 121 hits in 1956. After not playing in 1957 or 1958, he returned for 1959, hitting only .228 in 127 at-bats for the Wenatchee Chiefs. He also pitched that year, going 12-9 with a 3.72 ERA in 42 games (9 starts).

Overall, he hit .282 with 296 hits in 337 games. On the mound, he made 47 career appearances and went 12-9.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.
