Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Richie Shaffer was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 25th round of the 2009 amateur draft. He did not sign, opting to attend Clemson University instead. He was then taken by the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round of the 2012 amateur draft with the 25th overall selection. He signed at the deadline for a $1,712,500 bonus and made his pro debut with the Hudson Valley Renegades in late July.

Richie made his major league debut with the Rays on August 3, 2015 as the starting first baseman in a game against the Chicago White Sox. He went 0 for 2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. He collected his first big league hit then next day, a solo shot off Daniel Webb in the 7th inning of an 11-3 win over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
