Richard Griffin
Richard Griffin
- Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1954
Richard Griffin works as a baseball columnist for the Toronto Star and is also the president of the Toronto chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He was previously PR director for the Montreal Expos.
He was the 2014 recipient of the Jack Graney Award.
Biography[edit]
Born in Jamaica, Griffin and his family moved to Montreal in 1963. He graduated from Loyola High School before attending Concordia University and playing Junior Varsity basketball. He got his first job with the Expos while still a student at Concordia in 1973. He moved up in the Expos’ ranks to become director of publicity in 1978, moving to radio to be their play-by-play man from 1985 to 1994. Griff was hired by the Toronto Star in February 1995 and he has been with the newspaper since then. As of 2015, he provides baseball analysis for TSN Radio and TV in Canada and is the head coach of the Oakville A’s junior rep team.
