Biographical Information[edit]

René Espín pitched for 16 seasons in the Cuban Serie Nacional. In 1991-1992, he pitched 19 games for the Metropolitanos to lead the western division; he had a 3.42 ERA and split Serie Nacional Rookie of the Year with Jorge Díaz Olano. René led the Serie Nacional with 30 games pitched in 1993-1994. He moved to the Industriales in 1995-1996 and won three national titles with them. He had his best record (12-2, 4 Sv) in 1999-2000). Over 16 seasons, he was 47-62 with 41 saves and a 4.57 ERA in 338 games (98 starts). In 1,002 1/3 IP, he allowed 1,107 hits and 350 walks while striking out 458.
